The Air Loadmaster Memorial Appeal At the 2010 Annual General Meeting the proposition was carried that the Association would erect a Memorial at the National Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire. The sum of £3000 was sanctioned to cover the said erection, with a contingency granted should the cost escalate beyond this figure. With the current recession and rising prices this total was soon surpassed. We are now looking at a Memorial outlay of almost £6000. Unforseen ,and additionally, the "Ceremony of Dedication" has presented another large outlay to the tune of another £1000 plus.. The Committee immediately sought donations to cover the shortfall, and so far in excess of £2000 has been pledged. The Dedication Ceremony has been pared to ensure we do not further embarrass our limited finances, and we now seek donations, not only from Association members, but from the wider population of brevet holders. This Memorial is being placed and dedicated to the memory of all who went before us, and will be a fitting tribute to those who fell during service to their country, as well as to all our dear departed. The service is open to all plus their families, but please try and advise the Association of your intention to attend. Our coordinator is Derek Smith on 01538 306243 who will be happy to advise you should you have further queries. Alternatively you can e-mail Derek at derekandrosemary@live.co.uk or write to Derek at "Wits End", Horton Road, Leek, Staffs. ST13 8RU Donations. If you could spare even a most modest amount our Treasurer would be most grateful to receive it. All donators will be acknowledged in a planned volume to record their contribution regardless of amount given. Donations please to John Waltham, 68 Oakfield Rd., Carterton, Oxon, OX18 3QW, Cheques made in favour of "The Air Loadmaster Association Memorial Fund". The Dedication Service The Dedication Service will be held on Friday, 14th October at the National Arboretum, Alrewas commencing at 1330. The Association Padre, Reverend Tony Guilfoyle, will be officiating at this dedication. The programme will be flexible dependant on the weather at the time, and numbers attending. Car parking is limited and may be difficult but you can reserve a space by contacting our coordinator, Derek Smith on 01538 306243
Many thanks
